We had the opportunity to attend the Nextcloud Summit 2026 in Munich. Under the guiding theme “The digital sovereignty revolution starts here,” it became clear that Europe is standing at a decisive turning point.

The discussions, presentations and conversations made one thing unmistakably clear: digital sovereignty is no longer a topic of the future, but it has become a strategic necessity. Companies and public institutions want to regain control over their data, processes and digital infrastructures — securely, transparently and independently.

What impressed us most was the strong sense of momentum and optimism. Europe has innovative companies, powerful open‑source communities and the technological expertise to shape digital solutions based on European values. This is not about isolation, but about choice, security and sustainable innovation.

A clearly noticeable trend at the Summit: open source is increasingly evolving from an alternative into a truly strategic option for organizations of all sizes. Solutions like Nextcloud demonstrate that European technologies already meet many requirements that were previously associated almost exclusively with large US‑based platforms. Organizations benefit not only from transparency and control over their data, but also from high innovation speed and flexibility.

For us, one thing is certain: the future of digitalization is built on open standards, trustworthy technologies and collaborative partnerships. The developments we witnessed at the Nextcloud Summit show that Europe is well on its way to shaping its digital future with confidence and success.

“The question is no longer whether alternatives to Microsoft & Co. exist — but how quickly organizations are ready to unlock their potential.”

We look forward to actively shaping this path together with our customers and partners.
